The British Board of Trade returns show that the imports for April increased by £9,727,000, and tlio oxports increased by £7,354,000, compared with the previous April. Tho increased exports are due to a big inereaso of articles wholly or mainly manufactured. Tho imports of raw material was £6,ix,J,000 above tho previous April, including £4,000,000 LONDON MARKETS. LONDON, May 8. The American visible supply of wheat is 79,660,000 bushels. At the tallow sales 1246 casks were offered and 1231 sold. Prices: Mutton, tine 36s 6d, medium 345; beef, fine 36s 9d, medium 33s 9d. Tho wool sales were splendid. Prices for all sorts advanced. Prices of metals: Iron, 160 s 6d; lead, £l9 12s 6d; silver, 2s 5 o-16d. Press Association. NAPIER, last night. The High Commissioner’s report, dated London May Btli, is as follows: The mutton market is quiet, with no change to report. The lamb market is firm. Light weights, ojd for Canterbury, and other than Canterbury 4Jd; heavy weights, Canterbury 5Jd. There is better demand for beef. Stocks of N.Z. on hand are light. The prices ruling are 3§d and 3fd for hinds and fores respectively. There is fair demand for the better grades of butter. Choicest New Zealand, 975; Danish, 102 s. The cheese market is steady, with improved demand, at 625. The hemp market is quiet but firm. Good fair grade, on spot, £33 10s per ton; May-June shipments, £33 10s; fair grade, on spot, £3O. GOLD-MINING RETURN. AUCKLAND, last night. The Talisman’s April return is £11,34-5, from 4136 tons of ore.
