A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that the City Council intend to give a banquet to the late Mayor (Mr. Geo. Lawrence) and ex-Councillor Gore at the Town Hall, on the 18th inst. At the Meeting of Lodge Turanganui, LT.A.0..D., last night, feeling reference was-made to the recent death of Bro. G. S. Anderson and it was resolved in silence to go into mourning, and the Lodge was adjourned for a week. _ Sergeant Williams, who has been recuperating at Taihape returned to Wellington and is now understood to be suffering from pleurisy. He is expected to arrive in Gisborne shortly. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Mr. D. McFarlane, of Auckland, was appointed by the City Council last night as chief surveyor in connection with the proposed preparation of a detailed map of the city.
