SEASON OF DRAMA.
“THE FATAL AVEDDING” AND “THE AIIDNIGHT AA’EDDING.” I Tho advent of two such remarkable I dramatic successes as “The Fatal | AVedding” and “Tlic Midnight AVeclI ding” must certainly be regarded a red-letter day in theatricals in Gisborne. Throughout the length and breadth of Australia the name of Alessrs. Meynell and Gunn’s famous “Fatal AVedding” is familiar. It has been given to few companies to > 'attain such widespread popularity as that possessed by this organisation. AVith “The Fatal AVedding” as their leading attraction they have toured the length and breadth of tho colony, and everywhere established re- { cords, and again more recently with c tho new military romantic drama, “The Midnight AVedding,” they have | commenced another series of triumphs.
I AVith such a sterling actor as Air. ffafijejourt Beatty in the lead of a company of the highest excellence, lan interpretation of artistic merit is I assured. The five nights’ season I commences at His Alajesty’s on AVednesday evening next, 15th inst., in “The Fatal AVedding.” Amongst the many delightful features of “The Fatal AVedding” are the famous children’s scenes, which a leading paper thus comments on:—“Lastly is grand little Alaisie Posner (Jessie). This dainty little person—with her richness, her tenderness, her whimsical performance in her role of “The Litthe Afother”—is alone worth an evening at the theatre. No child actress seen these last few years can hold a candle to this clever child for natural, graceful, and convincing impersonation. But all the children are immense, from the grand little bit of a Queenie AVilliams to the clever Alaggie and Flossio Dickenson. The Tin Can Band, a novelty of tho most refreshing description, with the aforesaid babe Queenie to lead with skicli self-possession, vigor, and humor as would make a dyspeptic laugh. And all tho time those other young people danced and acted, and did their by-play so wonderfully well that one asked oneself however mere training could have done so much. But then it didn’t. Aiiss Daisy Alendoza is a young marvel. Her Ringing of ‘Josephine Aly Jo’ was •better than that of many an applauded ‘grown-up.’ This young lady will go far. Aiiss Alaggie Dickenson (‘The Kids from the Alloy’) and Aiiss Flossie Dickenson (‘Madcap Dance’) are also most promising young people; while several others by their clever acting and dancing would have an encouraging word if ono knew their names. ‘The Fatal AVedding’ is itself good, hut those children will long be a delightful and inspiring memory.” “The Midnight AVedding,” the sensational military drama which is to follow, is described as a most powerful drama of the Prisoner of Zenda order, and is claimed to tell a story of rich romantic interest and military excitement.
The plans are announced by advertisement to open at His Majesty’s on Saturday morning next at 10 a.m.', when patrons will he enabled to book for the entire season. The company concluded a record season in Auckland on Saturday last, and leaves for Gisborne by the Waikare on Tuesday.
