The following return of business at the Gisborne Post Office for the quarter ending March 31st, is taken from the latest' Gazette-.—Private box and bag rents £297 Is Id, money order commission £9l 4s 6d, stamps sold £679 17s lid, Postal Guides £1 11s 2d, postal note commission £22 17s 3d, miscellaneous postal receipts 16s 6s, total postal - £1093 8s telegrams £1513 18s 7pl, telephone exchanges £4O I Os 9d, miscellaneous telegraph receipts £l2 4s Bd, total telegraph £1575 14s od, total postal and telegraph revenue £2669 2s 6d. The 25 telegraph offices open at the end of the quarter did the following business: Ordinary telegrams, including Government paid telegrams 26,218 £B6l 15s 4d; urgent ordinary telegraphs 15.61, £ll9 Os lOd; press telegrams 1720, £lB6 Is Sid ; bureau communications 17,755, £347 0s 9d total 47,554 messages, costing £1513 18s 7jd. Ten money order offices wore open at the end of the quarter, and issued -2130 arjjers of a value of £9511 4s lid, and 797 orders of a value of £3383 17s Id were paid. At the nine savings bank offices open 519 accounts were opened and 351 closed. The number of deposits was 3218, representing a value of £47,281 15s Id. and the 2503 withdrawals represented £42,023 15s 7d, giving an excess of deposits over withdrawals of £5257 19s 6d. The postal notes sold during the quarter were of the following val- | lies: Is, 296; Is 6d, 179; 2s, 339; 2s 6d, 365; 3s, 398 ; ss, 619; 10s, 487 ; I 15s, 163; £l, 419; £5, 2; total, 3267

valued at £lll6 IDs; and the notes paid were: Is, 108; Is Gd, 70; 2s, 125; 2s Gd, 151 ; 3s, 130; ss, 2G5; 10s, 221 ; Los, 71; £l, 206; £5, 2; total, 1349, valued at .0507 10s Gd. No discount stamps were sold, but stamps valued at OIL 10s wore on hand at tlie end of the quarter.
