ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY.
AWARDS IN POVERTY BAY. At a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society, hold at Christchurch on Friday last, some Poverty Bay cases were dealt with. It was decided to forward an in memoriam certificate to Braidwood Higgins, father of Graham Higgins (aged nine), who was drowned whilst attempting to rescue Ills brother Allan from drowning in the Waimata river ut Gisborne on 15th January, 1907. The directors agreed to give a silver medal to Charles H. Howon (aged 21) for saving William A. Neale from drowning in Lake Waikaremoana on 31st January, 1907. Tho report showed that both the parties were dragged overboard from a launch owing to tho folding of a rope, and Neale would certainly have been drowned hut for Howell’s presence of mind. In the case of Angus M’Lcnnan for rescuing David Laing, whose life was in peril from a maddened bull at Waipu on 7th November, 1905, no award was made.
