I am prepared if elected to do all ; m my power to improve the existing conditions of that body. My views on the subject of Drainage, Lighting, Roads, and Footpaths, are that wo should lose no time in making such a change that would justify our claiming that we are no longer 20 years behind tho times. Any scheme, consistent with economy, that would in my opinion benefit or improve our Borough will have my support. TO THE ELECTORS OE GISbORNE. ■ AMES AND GENTLEMEN,When making your ?lcction for the Borough Council I tall bo pleased to receive your flir[lor mark of approval, and assure ou of my best'clFort to promote the wolf are of all and tho district in oneral. Gisborne Borough Council, and as , shall be unable to personally interview you before the day of Election owing to my enforced absence from homo, 1 desire to state that I am in favor of an economical scheme oi drainage for the town, even distri bution of the rates upon footpaths and. other necessary works throughout the Borough and progress and effi cieucy generally as long as such progress is in keeping with proper economy. Finally I can assure you that if you do mo the honor to elect me T shall use my best endeavors to serve you faithfully and well. Yours sincerely, ARTHUR WADE. TO THE BURGESSES GISBORNE. OE I A DIES AND GENTLEMEN,— -I I hog to offer you nj services as a member of the Borough Council. I appeal to you on the question of sanitation. Within a few montht we shall have ail abundant supply of pure water throughout the Borough, but, having brought the water into the town, it will be necessary to carri it out again. Failing an efficienl system of drainage the health of the town will he a good deal worse tliou it is at present, because every sec tion will be swamped with water. T advocate that a scheme of drainage should be immediately undertaken to cleanse the town and abolish the present abominable sanitary arrangements. The question of proper provision for cases of infectious diseases is also most urgent. Should you do me the, honor to elect me I shall do my utmost to sec that these matters receive prompt attention. Yours faithfully, ,T. W, WILLIAMS, M.D. MUNICIPAL ELECTION. TO THE BURGESSES OE THE BOROUGH OE GISBORNE. IN offering my services as a Councillor for a further term, I confidently refer you to the records oi the expiring term, and leave you tc declare at the ballot-box whether, oi not I havo endeavored to fulfil the pledge given to you two years ago to work honestly and assiduously lithe interests of the whole Borough. Should you deem that my past ser vices entitle me to re-election, I shall leave no stone unturned to promote tho progress of Gisborne. Briefly, m.v views of our urgent requirements are: ~ 1. The speedy completion qf our Waterworks. 2. An effective' am] up-to-date Drainage extending through the whole Borough. 3. When the Loan for such Drainage scheme is being raised, I am of opinion that a sum of from ten t<fifteen thousand should be added to the amount thereof for Rond Improvements, it being quite impossible to undertake even urgent requirements from ordinary revenue; and the great saving in maintenance of work once properly accomplished would, 1 am convinced, more than pay interest and sinking fund, anti thus result in a substantial annua! saving. 4. The setting up of a Select Committee of tiie Council for the purpose of endeavoring to acquire the Gasworks. or, in the event of being unable to come to reasonable terms, tho installation of a system of ElectricLighting. 5. The erection of suitable Re-venue-earning Municipal Buildings. In conclusion, let me assure you you of my firm faith in the stability and future prospects of our town, and my firm conviction that, with increasing values and a prudent administration, all the above progressive improvements can he accomplished with hut a trifling increase (if any) of our present rate. Yours faithfully, JOHN SHERIDAN. ■ April 20tli, 1007,
