MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. SIXTEEN CANDIDATES FOR COUNCIL. Nominations closed at noon yesterday for the positions of Alayor and Borough Councillors for Gisborne, and a keenly contested election is assured for AVedncsday next, the 24th of April, the polling day. As antici-
pated the Mayoral contest jvill be between Air. John Townley, who holds New Zealand’s record for length of term as Alayor, and Air. AA T . D. Lysliar, who contested the seat on a
previous occasion. In electing to contest the Alayoral seat, Air. Lysnar withdraws from the list of candidates for tile office of Councillor, and thus, with the retirement of Councillors J. Colley and A. AA 7 . Rees, at least three of tho sitting Councillors will not be
included in the new Council. The sitting Councillors who again offer themselves are Crs. Bright, Harding. Miller, Sheridan, Whin ray and Webb. Additional interest is of course given to the Mayoral contest, the office of Mayor giving ex officio a seat on the Harbor Board. The nominations are as follows: MAYORALTY.

ELECTIONS ELSEWHERE. Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, yesterday. Mr E. Dockrill was re-elected Mayor unopposed. Only the required number of candidates for the Council were nominated. ELTHAM, yesterday. For the Mayoralty Messrs G. W. Taylor (the present Mayor) and C. A. Wilkinson have boon nominated. Twelve candidates were nominated for nine seats on the Borough Council.
FEILDING, yesterday
The present Mayor, Mr. J. B. Trewin, and Cr. Hartford were nominated for the Mayoralty. There were fifteen nominations for the Council. NAPIER, yesterday.
At the Borough Council’s meeting last night it was unanimously decided to invite applications from syndicates or companies willing to instal an lighting and tramway system in Napier.
Three candidates, Messrs Carnell, Vigor Brown, and Spence, have been nominated for the Mayoralty. For nine seats on the Council there are seventeen nominations.
HASTINGS, yesterday
Mr T. G. Thompson, the present Mayor, and Messrs W. G. Dennett and W. Lane, ex-Mayors, are candidates for the Hastings Mayoralty. There are seventeen candidates for the Council.
BLENHEIM, yesterday,
There are fourteen nominations for the Borough Council election, with nine seats. Seven of the candidates sat in the last Council. There are three candidates for the Mayoralty. Messrs Penny, the present Mayor, J. J. White, an old Councillor, and A. McCallum, flourmiller.
NELSON, yesterday.
Mr A. Sheat, who has been a councillor for some years, lias been elected Mayor of Richmond unopposed. Mr.. F. W. Thorp has been re-elected Mayor of Motueka unopposed. The Mayoral contest will be between Mr. Jesse Piper, the present Mayor, and Mr. Charles J. Harley, barrister. There are eighteen nominations of candidates for nine seats in the City Council, of whom eight are seeking re-election. HOKITIKA, yesterday. Mr. H. L. Michel was re-elected Mayor unopposed. WELLINGTON, yesterday.
For the Mayoral elections for Wellington City, Messrs T. W. Hislop (the present Mayor) and T. M. Wilford, M.H.R., have been nominated. Mr. C. J. Crawford has been returned unopposed for Miramar; for Karori, Mr. A. C. Pearce, and for Eastbourne Mr. F. G. Bolton have been re-elected. DUNEDIN, yesterday. Nominations for the Mayoralty and City Council were announced yesterday. There are two aspirants for the Mayor’s chair (Messrs London and Gore), and. thirty-four candidates for the City Council. The Council consists of eighteen members. Several suburban Mayors were elected unopposed. TAURANGA, last night. The Rev. Canon Jordan has been elected Mayor. AUCKLAND, last night. The following Mayors have been elected unopposed :—Parnell, R. W. Basley; Mount Eden, O. Nicholson ; Onehunga, J. Rowe. At Onehiuiga there are 15 nominations for nine Councillors’ seats, at Parnell there are only seven nominations for nine seats. At Mount Eden all the retiring Councillors were re-elected.
