PERSONAL.

Rev. F. Isitt' arrives from the South this morning by the AVaikare. He goes to Ormond to-night, and will be ill Gisborne on Thursday and Friday.

A well-known young lady, Miss A. Hawken, who has been for some time with the firm of Messrs Adair Bros., recently severed her connection with the firm owing to her approaching marriage. A pleasing informal ceremony took place last night at Mrs Steele’s residence, Kaiti, the occasion being a presentation to Miss Haw•ken oil behalf of those of her friends who have been her fellow guests. Mr 11. Lewis, in making the presentation, feelingly referred to tlie many good qualities that had endeared her to all with whom she was associated since her residence in Gisborne, and wished her all happiness in her new sphere of life. Miss Hawken leaves Gisborne this morning to join her fiance, 'Mr. Green, who has just returned to New Zealand from England by the Paparoa.

The Auckland Observer states that the engagement is announced of Miss Benjamin, Dunedin’s clever lady lawyer, to Mr. A. M. DeCosta, of Messrs Findlay and Dalziell’s staff, AA’ellington. Mr. DeCosta (formerly of Gisborne) is well known in Rugby football circles, having been for many years secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Tho Manawatu Standard says: “Mr L. Pole, well known in this district, lias received an appointment as teacher in charge of the school at AVaipiro Bay, under the Hawke’s Bay Education Board. Air. Pole was originally ail assistant teacher at the local High School, and more recently was first assistant at tlie Marton High School. He takes up the new appointment at the beginning of this week.”
