LAND BOARD.
Tho quarterly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board was held at the Land Office, Gisborne, yesterday morning. Present: Messrs. Trent (Commissioner of Crown Lands), Hyde, Groom, and BartI’H m. FENCE LINE WANTED. Clias. Leggett, lessee of section 2 block XII., Ngatapa, wrote asking that a portion of the adjoining Forest Reserve be cut off and given him to facilitate fencing. There were six streams intercepting the present line and the fence would have to go over these streams and a number of spurs, but if the new lino wove granted the fence would run along the foot of a range and he quite free. Tho District Surveyor reported against the application on the ground that if granted it might he taken as a precedent. Mr. Bartram said that if possible the applicant should be given a good fence line. After a short discussion it was decided to obtain a report from the Ranger. ANNUAL RENT RAISED. The Land Officer reported on sections 1 and 4, blocks X and XI., Waimata. Three hundred acres was cleared and the rest was light bush. The land was within ten chains of tho road and was within 12J miles of Gisborne. Tho land would he eagerly sought at £3, though £2 10s was perhaps a fair rent. Mr. Bartram said he thought the rent should he higher. A section at Takapau was rented at. £4, and then there was only a clay road while in this case there was a good metalled road. After the matter had been discussed it was decided to raise the rent to £3 10s per acre. ACCESS AVAN TED. The Land Officer reported on several inquiries as to when an area of 14,850 acres in Moanui S.D. would ho open for settlement. The Commissioner said the whole of the land had been referred to the head office with a recommendation that certain of the land should be thrown open for settlement. The only reason for delay was the lack of road. Mr. Brodrick said ono section was served by the Motu Valley road, hut three others could not he got ’at unless six miles of road were made. Tho matter was left in the hands of the Commissioner to take what action is possible. TRANSFERS. Tho following transfers were approved : —AAL J. Baigent to G. E. Little, section 16, block 111., and sections 1,2, 5, and 9, blocks VI. and VII., Motu; E. F. Williams to R. Fitzgerald, section 1, block IX., Whangara; R..- Baker to Mc.Donoll' and Nicholls, section 4, block X., AVhangara; Jas. Fitzgerald to M., M., and G. Fitzgerald, run 4G, Uawn, etc; D. Gillanders to J. A. Thomson, section 4 and 8, block XIII., Nuhaka North; C. Peach to A. L .Bruce, section 10, block VI., AVillows; AA T m. Ross to A. E. Ommcrod, section 6, block I, Opoiti. R. Burgess’s application to transfer section 86, Hangaroa A r illage to Thos. Hollywood was withdrawn, being out of order. The application of F. Bates to transfer section 14, block VI., AA'illows, to H. Pilkingtori, was withdrawn. - GENERAL.
Tlie Crown Lands Ranger reported on section 3, block IV., Urutawa E. —Report approved. Messrs. Shanks Bros., lessees of sections 1 and 2, blocks XV. and XIV., Patutahi and section 1, block 11., Nuhaka North, wrote asking for approval to subdivide and each take a subdivision.—Granted. The subdivision is to be done at the cost of applicants. The application of Peter McDermott for a lease of section 3, block IX., Ngatapu, was withdrawn as it was not in. order.
Messrs. DeLautour. Barker, and Stock wrote asking that concession of rent under “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” be extended to Mr. Peddle, now lessee of section 2. block IX., Motu.—Application refused.
Messrs. Blair and Salisbury wrote asking for concession under “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903.” be extended to AV. and R. Baird for section 4, block IX., Motu.—Application refused.
A. H. Bugden wrote applying for lease of one acre of Crown land, Waihirere.—Held over for further information.
