' “ PR OVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the above was to have been held yesterday," but lapsed owing to the lack of a quorum. Present: Alessrs. AV. Lissant Clayton. Hutcheson (Rakauroa), and Elliott (Alotu).
Tho following was the correspondence : Tho Secretary of the Gisborne branch of tho Farmers’ Union wrote giving the following reasons for supporting communication between hero and AVaikato, via AA’aikaremoana, in preference to tho Stock Track : —(1) That there is only eight or ten miles of road to ho opened up on tho AA’aikato side of the Lake to connect through the coach road, and the road around tho Lake on this sdc: (2) that there is good food along the Imsli clearings; (3) numerous ' rivers on the Opotiki side are avoided; (4) there is a stock track through the Tahoi'a country which would bo a
little shorter than the AA’aikaromoana route, but it requires a considerable amount of work being done upon it; (o) on account of the feed and small amount of work nooossare the Branch recommends that all efforts lie made to open the route; (6) to facilitate, the tourist and public traffic to the Lake. Tlic Colonial Secretary wrote accompanying a parcel containing stereo blocks of Land Bill supplement, and a few reprints of the same and asking that arrangements hr made for printing. Tho Hon. Air. AlcNab wrote stating that every effort would ho madr to make the constitution of Land Boards representative of tho differ-
ent portions of the district. and alien going into the question as to whether the proper share of the district would be two members oil the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, every effort will be made to secure a fair representation.
r l> Under-Secretary for Public AVorks wrote that a temporary stopping place would bo erected a short distance beyond the tunnel at AAuiikohu, and that it would he available before next winter. AA’ith regard to (lie request that another section of the railway should be authorised, it was stated that the representations will receive careful • consideration when the Estimates for the forthcoming financial year are being prepared. Air. C. AA 7 . Hurst-house, Chief Engineer, wrote: Authority was issued on Alareli 25th for putting the work in hand for the vote of £230, which was placed on the Estimates for the AJotu A T illage roads.
