COURT STATISTICS.
Following,are tho statistics of tho Gisborne Magistrate’s and Police Courts for tho quarter ending March 31st: CRIMINAL BUSINESS. Crimes against public order, 85 males and 8 fomalos; the case of one nialo was dismissed on its merits; 78 males and 8 females were summarily convicted, making a total of 186. Crimes affecting the administration of law and justice: One male waß apprehended and convicted. Crimes against religion and morals: 8 males and 1 female woro arrested, one male was discharged for want of ovidonco; 7 males and 1 female were convicted. Offences against the person and reputation : 14 males were arrostod; 2 were discharged for want of ovidonco; • 3 were dismissed on their merits and 9 were convicted. Crimes against tho right of property : 15 males were taken into custody under this head; 1 was dismissed ; 3 were committed for trial and 11 wero convicted. Other offoncos: 41 males and 4 females wero arrested; 4 and 3 woro discharged; 1 and 2 woro dismissed, and 9 and 1 males and fomalos respectively, were convicted, making a total of 90.
CIVIL SITTINGS. There woro Co sittings during the quarter, 54 being presided over by tho Magistrate and 11 by Justices of the Poaco. Tho aggregate amount suod for was £1985 0s 2d, and the sum recovered was £1320 16s. OLD AGE PENSIONS. Six now claims wore received; 5 were granted and 1 is pending. 32 ronowals woro received; 29 woro granted and 3 aro pending.
