Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, last night, The biennial competitions under the auspices of the United Fire Brigade Association were continued today on the Exhibition sports ground. The attendance of,tlie public in the afternoon was most disappointing. On account of the half-holiday a large crowd was expected. All the morning was occupied with hose, hydrant, and union event, and it is anticipated that matters will have to be hurried considerably to bring the competitions to a close to-morrow evening. Hlie results of to-day’s work are as follows :

Hose, hydrant, and union for three men: First prize £2o' second £lO, third £7, fourth £4.- —The following teams competed in the order named: Martoa 39 4-5 sec. (including 1 sec. penalty), Carterton 43 3-5 sec., Hokitika 40 sec., Wailii 37 2-5 sec., Oamaru 42 1-5 sec., Gisborne 46 sec., (3 sec.), Hastings 37 1-5 sec., Stratford 38 4-5 sec., Westport 40 4-5 sec., Palmerston North 39 4-5 sec. (1 sec.), Wanganui 37 2-5 sec. (1 sec.), Lyttelton 36 sec., Masterton 39 2-5 (1 sec.), Fitzroy 39 2-5 sec. (1 sec.), Auckland 40 4-5 sec. (6 sec.), Timaru 39 2-5 sec. (1 sec.), Ilawora 37 2-5 sec. (1 sec.), Caversham 34 3-5 sec., Grey Lynn 35 3-5 sec. (2 sec.), Easttown Railway 35 1-5 (1 sec.), Napier 35 1-5 sec. Also started: Waipawa, Eden Terrace, Clyde, Invercargill Railway, Newmarket, Patca, Feilding, Wliangarei, Now Plymouth, Addington Railway, South Dunedin, Cambridge, Spit, Dunedin Railway, Oneliunga, Dannevirke, St. Kilda, Pt. Chalmers, Gore, Naseby, Christchurch, Richmond, Napipr Railway, Geraldine, Nelson, Sumner, Alexandra, Dunedin City, Akaroa, Hillside Railway, Christchurch Railway, Parnell, Woodville, Petoiie, Kumara, Lawrence, Ross, Hamilton. The remaining teams will run off to-morrow morning.

Rescue Event: First prize £lO, second £6, third £4, fourth £2.— Reefton 23 4-5 sec., 1; Hastings 25 3-5 sec., 2; Greymouth 26 sec., 3; Wailii and Stratford tied for fourth at 26 3-5 sec., and will run off tomorrow morning. Also competed: Patca 30 sec., Fitzroy 29 sec., MasI'erton 31 see., Ross 31 1-5 sec., Waipawa 30 2-5 sec., Christchurch 26 2-5 sec., Wanganui 30 2-5 sec., Devenport 31 sec., Wliangarei 29 4-5 sec., Hokitika 26 4-5 sec., Palmerston North 30 2-5 sec., Gisborne 35 sec., Spit 27 2-5 sec., Grey Lynn 30 1-5 sec., Hillside Railway 34 1-5 see., Dunedin South 29 1-5 sec., Palmerston North Fire Police 27 3-5 sec., Milton 31 1-5 sec., Caversham 29 sec., Dunedin Railway 29 1-5 sec., Timaru 27 2-5 sec., Bluff 32 3-5 see., Rotorua 29 3-5 sec.. New Plymouth 80 sec., Levin 28 sec., Dannevirke 28 sec., Oamaru 32 1-5. Also started: Nelson. Disqualified: Mount Eden, Pt. Chalmers, Easttown Railway, Lyttelton, Oneliunga, Napier Fire Police, Napier Railway, Dunedin City and Napier. Special Ambulance Event: First prize £lO and five special ambulance badges, second £s.—Christchurch 1, Dunedin Railway 2, Gisborne 3. Five teams competed. Alarm and Disabled Hose, for firemen : First prize £4O, second £2O. third £ls, fourth £lO, fifth £s. This event remains to be completed to-morrow, the scores being: Timaru 64 2-5 sec., Westport 69 sec. (2 see. penalty), Hawera 71 sec. (8 sec.) Also started: Gore, Masterton, Stratford, and Dunedin Railway. In the ladder race for one man yesterday, owing to a secretarial error, Hokitika was awarded fourth place, and Grey Lynn fifth. As the outcome of a protest the positions have been reversed, Grey Lynn taking fourth place.
