ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL AIEETING. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Orchestral Society was held at Townley’s Hall last evening. Air. Foster was voted to the cliair. In moving the adojition of the minuter of -the last general meeting the Chairman said that the society’s tliree-string bass had been sold. It had seen a. lot of service. An instrument to rejilace it had not yet been acquired. The balance-sheet showed that tlio society started the year with a credit balance of £ls 4s 3d. The receipts during the year were £2B 17s 2d, and tlio expenditure £35 6s 9d, the credit balance at the end of the year being £8 14s Bd. The assets of the society are valued at £25 10s, and there are no liabilities.

The Chairman said that included in these accounts was somo music for the coming year’s work, and a bass and cover. Tlio secretary of the Amateur Operatic Society had written enclosing a cheque for £5 5s for services rendered by the members of tlio Orchestral Society in the production of “The Gondoliers” last year. The Chairman stated that the animal meeting had been held early for the purpose of endeavoring to get off a series of concerts this year—owing to the late start last year only one concert could be Hold. Ho proposed that practice commence ou Thursday next, and when they had a full muster they could go into the matter of what should he the regular practice night. The proposition was agreed to. The following officers were elected: Conductor Air. Foster, secretary Air. Clirisp,committee Alessrs. C. Adair, Brown, and Palairct, and the conductor and secretary ex officio. Air. Foster, in returning thanks for election to the post of conductor, said that if there were good attendances at the practices they should be able to give a good series of concerts. He thanked members for their good attendance at practices during the past season, and complimented them on the success of the only concert given last year. Five new members wore proposed, A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
