ST. PATRICK’S SPORTS.

The Sports Committee wore lortunnte in experiencing good weather conditions for tlio annual sports gathering hold yesterday at the Park raco course, the use of which was allowed by tlio Racing Club. Tlio entries for tlio various ovonts wore good, but ill some cases not up to those of previous years. The attendance was fair, tlio majority coming by train, and a number driving and riding. The races wore keenly contested, and somo interesting finishes resulted. For tlio Hospital Fund Raco, there were 183 ontries, and much interest was evoked, as it came up lor decision. The arrangements, in the hands of Air. Ed. Williams, ably assisted by Mr. T. G. Lawless, wore as near perfection as possible and all went off without a bitch. The foot races wore despatched promptly, hut tlio horses gave some trouble. The cutoring was done by Air. W. llackott, ably assisted by Air. H. Alartin and Air. M. Alaliouoy dispensed temperance drinks. The City Band played a number of selections and the bagpipes and Highland dances attracted coiisidorablo attention. Air. J. Somervell kindly placed bis merry-go-round at the disposal of the committee, and it was a great favorite with tlio youngsters, who were well looked after. Father Lane and Father Dignan were conspicuous all over the grounds. Alessrs C. Noonan, W. Howard, and J. J. Alartin judged tlio foot events, which were supervised by Alessrs. Ilowio, O’Neill, Henderson, Sheridan, and others. Air. G. Witty acted as time-keeper. Altogether those present spent a very njoynblo day. The results were:—

Maiden Race, 150 yards :First prize 30s, second 10s.—Sargisson 1, Wyllio and Kelly dead heat for second place. Five entries. Time, 17 1-5 see. Boys’ Handicap (under 16), 100 yards: First prize 10s, second ss. Ipukara 1, R. Wallen 2. Four entries.

Girls’ Handicap (under 14), 100 yards: First prize 10s, second ss. Nora Harper 1, Eileen Bowler 2. Five entries.

St. Patrick’s Handicap, first event, 100 yards: First prize £2 10s, second £l, third 10s.—First heat: O’Neill 1, Cliitty 2, Alorris 3. Time, 10 4-5 secs. Second heat: Pollock 1, Kelly 2, Wyllie 3. Time, 11 secs. Filial heat: Pollock 1, Kelly 2, Cliitty 3. Time, 10 1-5 sec. Four entries. Pony Race, four furlongs: First prize £2 10s, second ss.—Babel 1, Aliss Kruger 2, Blue Bell 3. Time, 55 secs. Ten entries.

St. Patrick’s Handicap, second event, 220 yards: First prize £3, second £l, third 10s.—Pollock 1, Kelly 2, Wyllie 3. Time, 22 2-5 sec. Three-quarter Alile Scurry. For horses that have never won a race of £5 or over. Alinimum weight Sst. First prize £5, second £1 Is.—lvamona 1, Ivan 2, Dago 3. After a number of false starts, tile field hunched out, led by Ravcnwood. Kamona challenged the latter and took up the lead, coming first round the straight, closely followed by Ravenswood. Won easily. Time, 1.20. Handicap Trotting Race: First prize £4, second £l, Twice round. —Paradise 1, To Aute 2. The field straggled, Te Auto in front (60 sec. start), Paradise gradually catching up. Six entries. Time, 7.9. Handicap Hurdles, 100 yards (over 10 flights): First prize £2, second 10s —Kelly 1, Campbell 2, Atkins 3. Time, 17 sec. Eight entries. Polo Jump: First prize £l, second 10s.—Webb won, clearing Bft 7in, Rangi second, clearing Bft Oin. Four entries.

Hospital Fund Race: First prize £2 2s, second £1 Is, 20 yards.—D. Moore 1, F. Afalier 2. IS3 entries. Olio Alile Handicap Foot Raco: First prize £7, second £2, third £l. —Cahill 1, W. Campbell 2, The third was distanced.

Siamoso Raco Handicap: First prize £l, second 10s, 200 yards.— Kelly and Alorris 1, Alorrow and Atkins 2.

Horse-jumping Competition: First prize £3 10s, second £1 Is, third 10s. —Bay 801 l 1, Thelma 2. St. Patrick’s Handicap, third event, 440 yards: First prize £4, second £2, third £l.—Alorris 1, Kelly 2, Cliitty 3.

Alile Scurry. For horses that have never won a race of £5 or over at time of starting. Alinimum weight 8 st. : First prize £5, second £1 Is.— Ivan 1, Hinetahi 2. Dago won,' hut liis win was protested against as he raced at an unregistered meeting at Aluriwai. The protest was upheld, tiie prizes going to Ivan and Hinetahi.
