In the matter of education New Zealand compares very favorably with the States of the Australian Commonwealth. In 1905 there were 1806 schools in the colony and 3810 teachers. The number of scholars enrolled'was 138,471 and the average attendance 117,725. New Zealand has ono school to every 427 inhabitants, New'South Wales one to every 4GB, and Victoria one to every 622. New Zealand spent 16s 2d per head of population on education, New South Wales 12s 6d, and Victoria 10s 2d.
