KAITARATAHI
Our Kaitaratahi correspondent wrfitcs:—A picnic that proved to be ono of tho most pleasant outings that has taken place in the district, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the people of Ivaitaratahi and surrounding neighbourhood, was held on Thursday i'll the fields opposite Mr. Caulton’s, under the shade of the walnut trees. Tho picnic was given to the children attending tho Kaitaratahi school, and numbered 45 all told. At an early hour the train brought a number of people from Ormond, who thoroughly made up their minds to enjoy themselves, and to assist in adding to the pleasure of the little ones. Racing commenced early in the day, as the programme was a large one. There were many prizes given out to he run for by all comers, which showed a very kindly spirit indeed. The ladies were now very busy spreading “the good things of Egypt” for the hungry ones, and a better spread you never saw; there was no lacking of anything, and it was expressed by all who partook that tho turnout was all that coidd be wished for. Towards evening the people wended their way to the schoolhouse, whore a social was hold. It would be invidious to say which of the ladies did '-most, for they all worked arduously in making things such a great success.’ The names of the ladies who did so much were Mesdames M. Benson, Caultbn, McKay, and many others. The gentlemen who took an active part were Messrs.. F. McKay, Voustien, Williams, and Barwick. Dancing commenced at 8 o’clock and finished in tho “wee sma’ ’oors” in the morning. Mrs. Dum"pliy is to be praised for the assistance at the piano, which she performed much to tho pleasure of those present. Cabs were ordered at 2 a.m. Mr. Bolton, the schoolmaster, and the committee are to be congratulated on the thorough success of the day’s outing.
