PRESENTATION

Most of the teachers at the Gisborne school gathered in the school after lessons yesterday afternoon to make a presentation to Mr. Moricc, junior assistant master, who is leaving the town. Mr. F. J. Rowley, tho headmaster, in making a presentation of a pair of ebony-mounted military hairbrushes, and a wallet suitably inscribed, apologised for the absence of some of the teachers, who, owing to tho bustle with the cadets, had not been informed of the function. Mr. Rowdey said* that they wero met on one of those almost periodical occasions when it was necessary to say good-bye to a fellow-worker. On this occasion it was one of the youngest on the staff, who was leaving to better iiis position in the profession, lie was sorry Mr. Morice was leaving the school, but ho felt sure he was taking a right step in deciding to study further at the University. Mr. Morice had been tacliing at the Gisborne school for five years. He was just a beginner then, and had been a few months longer at the school than had he (Mr. Rowley). Mr. Morice was the last of the pupil teachers then on the staff. He had always been a willing worker and he was one to whom tho boys took very kindly. Mr. Morice, in reply, returned thanks for the kindness which had prompted the presentation. Ho had been continuously connected with the school for fourteen years, as pupil and teacher. Were it not that lie wished to improve the grade of his certificate he thought he would not leave the town. He parted with great regret from the teachers of the school, who had helped him in many ways, but he hoped some day to come back. He would always regard Gisborne as liis home.
