WAERENGA-A-HIKA.
(From our own Correspondent.) A long-felt want in this locality is likely to be supplied in tho shape of a public hall. A free gift of one iacre of land in a most suitable position has been promised by a muchrespected resident in this locality 7, conditionally that the hall be erected thereon, to belong to tlie people for all time. With the above object in view a public meeting was hold in the school on the evening of the sth, and u resolution carried by those present 1 accepting the generous offer with thanks, and pledging themselves to do their utmost to have a hall erected on the land. A strong committee was formed to canvass for subscriptions, and to report to a public meeting to be held 011 the evening of the first Tuesday' in April. I trust that the Waercnga-a-liika residents will respond liberally to solicitations for funds, and recognise the fact that before they can expect outside assistance they must- belli themselves. Such a liberal gift as half an acre of land should be taken advantage of, and a building worthy of the place erected Considerable outside support has aL enthusiastic committee and the support which the object merits from local residents tho undertaking should be accomplished in the near future. I Things in general are becoming quiet, the rush and bustle of harvesting being over. The country 7 , which was becoming rather bare, a few weeks since, now shows abundance of feed. I think altogether we can congratulate ourselves on tlio fact that we have had a bountiful and prosperous season. March 6.
