ROWING.
The second heat of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s Champion Fours for Mr. E. P. Joyce’s gold medal was rowed last evening between teams stroked by AA 7 ebb and McLeod respectively. Rounding the bend McLeod had a good load. Coming to the bridge A\ 7 ebb made a good effort and managed to reduce the margin to a little over a length. Past the bridge, however, AA 7 ebb could make little further headway, Nearing the finishing post there was a rather bad foul. The race was finished out, McLeod winning by about two lengths. McLeod’s crew rowed a regular, clean stroke throughout, but AA 7 ebb’s crew’s stroke was very scratchy.
