CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Tho following aro tho results of tho 42nd week of the egg-laying competition, 1678; grand total 57,622. Highest layings for wook: Priddlo, white wyandottes, 34; Thomson, 32, and Brooks 30, both white leghorns, 27 each. Tho loading pens to ditto are: Brooks 1191, A. and I’. Association 1150, Thomson 1107, Lossington 1106, Hodson 1087, all white leghorns.

MINISTER FOR LANDS. AUCKLAND, last night. The Hon. Mr. McNnb, Minister for Lands, returned from his northern tour last evening, and loft for Wellington to-day. Ho will spend about a week in Wellington.

Tho Native Lands Commission sat on Saturday, when a lengthy statement was submitted from a number of natives interested in tho AVnimarama block, praying a Court to bo setup to speedily hear and dotormino tho applications for partition of tho said lands, and that logislatili might not bo passed ’by which the lands might bo compulsorily taken, or that would prevent them leasing their lands to whom they desired.

INTERESTING EXHIBITS. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. A new caso has been placed in the Agricultural Department’s court at tho Exhibition,containing samples of Capo turkey and Australian mohair. The collection includes hair as taken from the goats’ samples of “tops,” or the material after it has been washed and combed. Specimens of yarns and finally of the finished material made from tho mohair, consisting of ladies dress fabrics of great variety, some of which have all tho appearance of silk and plushes, which are largely used for upholstering purposes. The collection was presented by Sir Titus Salt to .Mr E. A. Scanned, who is an enthusiast regarding the value of the Angora goat to the Commonwealth, and has a very largo flock of those goats in South Australia. The exhibit was shown by Mr Scanned at a recent exhibition held at the Royal Exchange, Sydenham, and has been lent by him to the New Zealand Department of Agriculture for exhibition before being presented to the proprietary of the Sydney Mail.
