MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Yesterday his "Worship gave judgment in tlie following undefended, case: —Thomas Sweet (Mr. Blair) v. Te Kaui Haeata, £4 Is 3d and costs. Judgment Summonses.
There was only one judgment summons before the Court. George Smith v. Rutene Takina, Mr. Coleman represented the creditor and Mr. Burke appeared for the debtor. Tlie debtor said lie had only earned £lB in 12 months. He had land, but only received 3s a year rent. He paid no rent for liis house. lhe Magistrate said it seemed to be a very small sum for a man to earn m twelve months. In reply to , Coleman debtor said he bad paid Mr Shaw £ls. His wife had earned £J' while lie was earning LIB. lie nacl not paid any other creditor except Mr. Shaw. He had been buying goods in town since April last, lie pant £8 to one man. Hp got the money from his wife. He had no goods of any kind. The Magistrate said he could not make any order. The Gisborne Times Company v. F. Hall and Son.—Mr. Blair appeared for the plaintifts and Mr. Nolan for tlio defence, lhe claim in this case was for advertising. Mr Blair stated that Jiis principal witness, Mr. Gaudin, who had been subpoenaed to give evidence m the case, left Gisborne the previous evening for Opotiki. His Worship might issue a warrant for his apprehension. (Daughter.) The Magistrate: The proper course would be to call upon Mr. Gaudin to show cause why lie did not appear to give evidence in the case. Mr. Blair and Mr. Nolan agreed to an adjournment or the case to March 21,
