THE RECHABITE ORDER
Tbo general district meeting of the Now Zealand Central District of too Independent Order of Rechabites takes piano in Now Plymouth on Tuesday, 19tli inst. A considerable amount of business is to be trailsa* i - ed, there being a number of motions of gioat moment to the Order on il:e agenda paper. The local male ‘Tent has several motions before 'ho mealing, the chief being propose is to reduce the entrance fee, increase tbo funeral benefit, establish a central sick fund and a magazine for the Order. The report of the District A 7 isitor to the local Touts is to bo laid before tile meeting, and is of a highly favorable nature, being as lollows:
“Arrived AA r ednesday morning. AA’as met at the wharf by Bro. Holdswortli, the secretary of the Gisborne Tent. At 7.30 p.m., met the members of the Balia nee Juvenile Branch, a fine lot of young members, some past the age and ready to bo transferred into the adult Tent. Had a short talk with them.. At 8 71.111., the members of the two adult Tents began to come for the united meeting. At 8.30, Bro. Haycock, the C.R., took the chair. AVe had a very good gathering, with music and song, anil a liberal supply of refreshments. With my remarks the evening soon passed. I reached home about midnight. Thursday, at the books. TIIO Juvenile books have been well kept. The Gisborne Tent books the same. Saw all books and bank books, found everything in order. Female Branch. —Friday, met Sister Somervell, the Secretary Female Branch. This Branch is in the happy position of having more money than the books showed. From the accounts of some members, a brother in the Gisborne Tent had given a donation which had been placed in the bank but not carried through the books. I made out a balance-sheet embracing the donation, also included some interest accrued, and made balance and total funds of the Tent compare with the bank-book. - The Secretary of this Tent has done her work very well, right through there has been a lot of painstaking Secretarial work clone by our Gisborne member. As Bro. Nasmith’s (late Secretary) businiss demands his attention in the evening, he has. been compelled to give up the jiosition, Bros. Holdsworth has been appointed to this most important office, under the guidance of the late Secretary, and judging by the keen interest he is taking, I trust the work will do well under the new Secretary’s guidance. 011 Saturday evening the Gisborne Tent held their ordinary meeting, the Official A 7 isitor in the chair. The members of Star of New Zealand, Female Branch, attended for a Saturday night. The attendance was very good. The usual business, including one candidate jiroposed for membership having been attended to, some of the members questioned the Official A 7 isitor upon different aspects of our work. A very interesting and, I trust, very profitable evening was silent. Our Gisborne members are enthusiastic, and dis}ilay keen interest in the work, and seemed interested in my remarks, urging them to carefully look after the investment of their funds. Sunday broke, after four fine Jovely summer days, stormy, with heavy rain. Some of the members braved the elements and came to the wharf to say farewell.” Sister Somervell, of the Star of New Zealand Tent, and Bro. Nasmith, of the Gisborne Tent, who have been a}i]iointed to represent their respective Tents at the District Meeting, leave for New Plymouth, via Auckland and Onebunga, on Saturday morning.
