ROWING
The third heat, of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s Schumacher fours was rowed over the Tarnheru course last evening, and resulted in a win lor 0. Hamilton from lb C. Bailey, by half-a-lciigtli, after a splendid finish. From a good start. Hamilton, rowing a rattling stroke, soon gained half a length from Bailey, who was watching liis crew very closely, and judging their strength very well. At the footbridge Hamilton had increased his lead considerably, and a length of clear water was showing between the boats. Bailey now began to assert himself, and rowing a clean, even, and very telling stroke, succeeded in placing matters on an oven basis again at. Nesbitts’. From Evans’ jetty to the post a splendid race ensued, Hamilton, with a well-timed sprint, getting home half a 'length to the good. Bailey throughout rowed a great race, judging his time and nursing his crew to the very best advantage. To-night the semi-finals will bo decided. \Y. Johnston meet’s C. Hamilton, and TT. Kershaw rows the crew stroked by G. It. Butler. The second round in the sculling handicap for Mr Broad’s Cup was started last evening, when 'Willoughby met Somervell, the former winning after a good contest. In the second race Seymour mot Anderson, the latter making most of his handicap, winning rather easily at the finish.

An election for throe members to represent the Borough on the Napier Harbor Board took place to-day, the three retiring members, Messrs McVay, Brown, and Ellison, being reelected. WANGANUI HARBOR BOARD. WANGANUI, last night. The Harbor Board election resulted: W. G. Bassett 707, J. T. Hogan 050, A. G. Bignell G 55, N. Aleuli Gl2, T. B. Williams 597, Jno. .Tones 590, A. Harris 572, W. E. Morgan 549. The first four were elected. A. Iliggie was elected for Wanganui county.
