HOLLOWAY DRAMATIC COMPANY.

“Tho Shadows of a Great City” was the exciting drama given in His Majesty’s Theatre last night by the above company. There was a large attendance, and the piece was thoroughly enjoyed. The scenery and mounting was again a special feature, and had the hearty admiration of the audience. Though the piece lias many striking situations of intense dramatic interest, the humorous side had a large share in the proceedings, and Mr John P. O’Neill made a great hit as Biddy Roonan, whose heart was “as verdant as the emblems of her native land.” The way in which Mr O’Neill sustained the character was in itVself worth going to see. Miss Beatrice Holloway was again tho winsome actress who delighted everyone, having the sweet part of Nellie Standish, the faithful daughter. Mr Godfrey Cass acted tho cruel and remorseless character of George Benson in a very successful way, and Mr Robert Inman was the hero as Tom Cooper, and was as great a favorite as ever. Miss Rosa Conroy. as the disowned and discarded mother, did a fine piece of acting, and Mr Wilton Welch as Jim Farren contributed much to the comicalities of the evening. The other parts were ably sustained. There was a great deal of fun provided, and the audience heartily enjoyed the piece. To-night, the last' night of the Gisborne season, the sensational drama, written by Eric Hudson and Reginald Stockton, entitled “Under Remand,” will be presented. The dialogue of the play is said to be consistently bright, and the humorous and pathetic are blended in a most engaging manner. An exchange, speaking of the play, says:—Pit is seldom a piece is either hotter mounted or better acted than “Under Remand.” The scenery and stage arrangements leave nothing to he desired.” The late train will ho delayed to-night till after the performance in order to give country patrons au opportunity of witnessing the Holloway Company.
