(By Telegraph Special Service.) CHRISTHURCH, last night. The sweated industries exhibits are being arranged to the best advantage on special shelving erected in the forefront of the Labor Department’s Court, and much interest is already being shown by visitors to the Exhibition in tlie display. A large working model of the derrick at the Taranaki Petroleum Co.’s Birthday bore was erected this morning in the Taranaki Court, and in view of tho great interest aroused by the sudden development of the oil industry is attracting considerable attention. Some highly favorable opinions of tho Exhibition were expressed. This afternoon half-a-dozen Commissioners of the Exhibition and prominent local citizens woro the guests of Mr. Bruce, Mayor of Adelaide. Mi-. Bruce, in jiroposing the toast of the Exhibition, said that if the late Mr. Seddon could see it to-day ho would he thankful to know that it had proved to ho everything ho could have wished. The niloiidaires wi re large, the exhibits w-ere well arranged, and tho site unsurpassed. He had been particularly struck with the British Court, and the Ait Gallery, which contained some of the finest paintings that over left the old country. The Canadian Court- was also magnificent. Mr. Re: co, Executive Commissioner, referred to tho British Court and Art Gallery as second to nothing of the kind in any exhibition. Mr. Reece, Canadian Commissionex*, proffered hearty congratulations on the Exhibition as a whole. Australia had done well, and New* Zealand had done particularly well, and for its size the Exhibition was amongst the best he and his colleagues had seen in any part of the

world. The Bosses of the Barn Band give a performance before a large attendance fins aiternniin, and in toe evening, despite the threatening weather, about -fifteen hundred people assembled to hear them. On Wednesday noxt, which wilt be tlie last niglit of tho band season, it is proposed to hold a big display of fireworks in connection with their concert. Somo special fireworks to musical accompaniments will also be given, Pain and Sons, Louden, havij.g combined with the Besses or the Barn Band in the old country in suen entertainments. A display of aerial fireworks will ot given on Friday night. Miss Florence Quinn, the young New Zealand soprano, whose voice so charmed the late Premier on Ins visit to Bendigo, sang several numbers at the orchestral concert this evening, and lvas most enthusiastically received by the crowded audience. She Will be heard at throe concerts at the Exhibition next week. The electric light contractors arc now arranging 49 clusters of 310-caudle-power colored lamps along tr C ns in front of tlio building. 11ns was part of the original lighting contract, bat owing to the shortage of current, it has not beon possible to instal these illuminants before tlie axemen's carnival, which will be held on Thursdav and Saturday next. Half the competitors arc champions. On Thursday night Wonderland s floral fete and sensational fire rescue act will take place.
