A LOCAL GRIEVANCE.
To the Editor of the Gisborne Timks. Sir,—We will thank you to publish the following :— Having a small consignment of. goods to forward by Hie morning train, duo to leave at /.4o a. m r , 1 took same to the station, at 7 o’clock, and on arrival there found 1 could not get through the gate until 7.30 a.in., and on getting into the station was more than disgusted to loam that goods for the early morning train were only forwarded providing they were .booked the day before between the lipurs of 8 a.in. and o p.m. This means that if we get an urgent order by the afternoon mail, and are unable to get it down to the station before 5 p.m., it will have to wait until 4 p.m. train the following day, which means a vexatious delay of seven hours.
Now, surely something can be done to alter this unbusinesslike state of tilings. Most of the important, up-to-date railways realise the importance of [assisting their supporters, and will alibw you to put goods on the trains practically up to departure, and although the Gisborne railway is only a miniature affair in comparison, there is no reason why it cannot be run on similar lines in the handling of small goods traffic.
AVo trust that all persons interested in the matter will communicate with the undersigned, who intends writing the Minister of Railways on the subject.—Yours, etc..
GEORGE AVILLIAMS. “Williams and Kimbel, Jvaiti Soapworks.
