Mangapapa School Concert.
At His Mojosty’s Thsatro last eveniag tho above concert, organised by Mr Hunter, took place, when a fair house greeted the performers. The junior and senior pupils of the school oontnouted largely to tho pro
gramme, rendering several aoiion songs and choruses in a very creditable manner.
Tea Gisborne Ciab orchestra opened each half of tho entertainment in their usual
taking manner, (he selections being rnuob enjoyed by tho audience. The items given by the junior pupils, “Story Land,” "Pickles,” "Points tf View,” and a lullaby, wero heartily applauded, the little ones acquitting themselves admirably. The seniur pupils wero equally successful
with tbe choruses " Country Life,” "Fields of Red Clover,” and 11 Ye Banks and Braes,” reflecting not a little oredit on Mr Hunter’s tuition. Tbe obaractcr song “The Sewing Bee,” by she girls, was also a moat acoeptablo item. Mis 3 Morgan acoompanied the children’s songs on tho organ. Tbe duct, “ May Bell?,” by th 9 Misses Talicob, pleased tbe audience, aud a decided eneoie was demanded. Mrs Bnckeiidga was not in her best, " Lovely Spring ” (Oowao), and a recall fiR3 not responded to. Her second I song in tbo latter half of tho programme, " She Wore a Wreath of Rosas ” (Knight),
waa mors than pleasing, and a deserved encore followed, which wag responded to. Mr Biownleo wua more in big old form last night, and his rendition of “ Throe ior Jack ” was a very pleaeicg item. Two quartsttoa from “ Flora’s Holiday—a Country Danor,” and “ A Oatoh," wore sung, the firs! by Mosdemes Bocktridge and Gardiner, and Mr Hunter and Dt Buckeridge, the latter with Mr Brownlee in Mr Hunter’s place. Both quartettes were appreciated, “ A Catch ” taking the audience, an onooro resultod. Mrs BrotvnIcb aotr-d as acooiDpanist. The piano for the ooncert was kindly lent by Messrs Ohrisp and Son. The December number of the Soindian, the magazine of the Napier Boys’ High School, is to hand, and. as usual contains much information, served up in a chatty style, of special interest to those who have passed through the school or have friends there. The yearly balanco-ohest shows a deficiency in the revenue of the paper, showing that the support deserved is not being accordod. Among the piquant items of school news is the paragraph: '* Influenza claimed alargo number of victims iu the house during tho term, no case, however, being at all serious. We have our suspicions (may they be unfounded) that several of the young gentlemen took this comp'aint as a good excuse for ‘taking a rest ’ from the arduous duties of school life.”
