PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. Tho Wellington nncl Marlborough Cement Company decided to go into liquidation. Tho annual report showod a loss of 4110,349 incurrod by tho oxcessivo cost of material, hoavy charges and inadequate capital. Six thousand tlireo hundred tons of cement was sold, but the works woro novor run to the Full capacity Tho directors proposed to reconstruct and remove tho works to tho source of supply of raw material, but the shareholders decided iu favor of liquidation.
Gore, yesterday
Heavy min sot in at 0 o’clock this morning, and has continued since, with tho prospect of more. Fanners arc jubilant, as on tho liighor lands and ridges thoy had been preparing to turn sheep into tho crops. Tho rain will savo most of thorn.
Invercargill, last night.
Ross and Glondinning's warehouse was broken into on Saturday night and a swag of varied goods, probably worth .£.lO, removed. Tho thief gained an ontraneo by a sky-light. A series of bush lives raged round Invercargill on Tuesday, when the heat was intense, and a northerly galo raged; The Now Zealand Pine Company lost a milo and a quarter of tramway at Mabel Bush, and four chains and a bridge at Sparbush. No damage to houses or homesteads is yet reported.

Tho interim return of acreage under corn and green crops iu the colony for 1900-7 has been issued. The net increase is 93,122 acres, the advance being principally duo to an extonded area in turnips and grain. Tho crops of oats show an increase of 30,801 acres, and barley 8832 acres. Tho wheat area has decreased by 11,030 acres. Thore is an ineroaso of 4755 acres under potatoos.

Tho annual meeting o£ tho Kelson State Schools Biblo Teachers’ Association, which has existed for nine and a half years, was held to-night, when tho Chairman of tho Education Board, bishops, and clergy of all denominations savo Homan Catholics wore present. Sixteen volunteer teachers carry on the work in the city in schools out of tho ordinary echool hours, and the bulk of tho children attend and receive religious instruction. These children wore recently examined, and prizes wore, presented to those successful by Mrs Mules. Christchurch, last night.
Mr A. TI. Wilding, of Christchurch, who has been so successful a tennis player in England, arrived in Now Zealand to-day by tho Buapehu. He was welcomed on arrival by members of tho New Zealand Tennis Association, and entertained at a gathering over which tho Mayor presided.
