FIRE AT HASTINGS.
PRESS ASSOCIATION Hastings, yesterday; A fire occurred in Queen street shortly before two this morning, when the following business places were destroyed: Edmonds (printer), Booth, Macdonald and Co. (implement manufacturers), Le Quesne and Cowan (plumbers), James (painter), Paterson and Mossman (agents), Scannel (solicitor), and a large livery stable in course of erection for Satterthwaite and O’Meara. Keith and Styles, the builders, lose .£3OO. The wind dropped after the fire got a good hold, otherwise the block from the Standard printing office to Tippings’ store would have gone. Following are the insurances on tho fire this morning: D. Scannell, building, including Paterson and Mossman’s office, £6OO in the Liverpool and Globe office, effects *IOO in the New Zealand; Paterson and Mossman’s office, contents £SO in the South British ; LeQuesne and Cowan, building £SO, contents £2OO, in the Standard ; Edmonds’ printing plant, £225 in the Australian Alliance ; G. James, painters’requisites, £IOO in the Sun; J- T. Blake, store at rear of buildings £SO, contents £BO, The building occupied by Booth, Macdonald, James, and Edmonds was owned by Mrs A. H. Russell and insured for ,£6oo.in the Sun. It is believed there was no insurance on Booth’s stock of £66 The block destroyed was. in the brick area, and all the new buildings will consequently be of brick.
