THE BOOK ACCIDENT.
PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night, • Tho inquiry ioto She Calliope dock aooidont wae resumed to-day. W. H, Hamer, engineer to the Harbor Board, put forward the theory that tbo Booident was due to the vessel beffig dragged forward by over-taut ropes, thus shifting tbo blocks, and causing them to collapse, with the full weight of the boat bearing on them. Two other engineers, who have had experience of docking in various parts of tbo world, supported this explanation of tha accident, emphatically declaring that no other view was possible. Another witness gave evidence to seeing tho bow ropes so taut that thero was no vibration in them, and as a conaequonce ha cautioned four or five men working undor him to keep clear of the ropes for fear they would carry away. This givrng a new phase to ovidonce, and in order to give ail parties an opportunity of refuting tho theory, the inquiry was further adjourned till January 7th.
