PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night, Mr Evans, the Premier of Tasmania, was entertained by tho Mayor of Lower Hut!, to-night, Among tho guests were the Premier and Lady Ward and Dr Findlay, Mr T. K. McDonald, M.L.C-, Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R. Sir Joseph Ward proposed the health of the visitor. Replying, Mr Evans expressed appreciation of the evidences of prosperity he had seen since his arrival in New Zealand, He hoped after what he had learned hero to institute a policy in Tasmania of repurchasing some of tho large estates for closer settlement, There eleven men owned nearly half the island- Speaking of the Australian federation, he said if a vote was taken to-morrow Tasmania would be in favor of secession For himself ho was opposed to secession, believing that federation would eventually be brought to a successful issue,
