WOODVILLE RACES. PRESS ASSOCIATION Woodville, last night. The first day of the summer meeting . of the Woodville Jockey Club commenced, to-day under peculiar climatic conditions. There was a heavy downpour of rain on the previous day, but this morning broke beautifully fine, and continued so until midday, when heavy rain fell, which lasted for the first four races. Then it cleared up and remained beautifully fine for the rest of tho day. The attendance of the general public was very satisfactory, and speculation was brisk. The sum of £7036 passed through the totalisators, which is £1252 better than the corresponding day of last year. The results were:— Maiden - Dan Leuo 1, Lord Rosebery 2, Corazon 3. Scratched; Catapult, Grand Poplar, Deucation, Oakburn, Rearlie, ' Won comfortably by 2 lengths. Time 1.48 3-5. Divs. *'2 17s and £4 11s.
Hack Hurdles—Eookby 1, Gold Dust 2, Needlework 3. Scratched; Mahoe, Assayer, Bandmaster, Sen-sim, Mereshot. Won by four lengths, Time 3 28, Divs. £2 12s and £1 6s. Grandstand Hack—Mecca 1, Immolation 2, Mataara 3. Scratched; Lady Beresford, Honyhyhvm, Victoria Park, Wailethe, Merry wing, Rendrock, Oneiros. Won by a length aiter an exciting tussle. Time 1,32. Woodvilio Handioap. Submarine 1 Operetta ... 2 Paritulu ... 3 Scratched: Ngatarua, Nova, Montigo, Mataari,Mabaranui. This was a magnificent race. At the distance mast of the horses wore in lino and all appeared to have a chance, but near the post Submarine drew ont and won by a length. Time 2.11 25. Divs. £3 5s and £1 4s.
