SECRECY OF TELEGRAMS

PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night. The question of the Heore.cy of telegrams was referred to in She Supreme Ooort this morning by the Crown solicitor, Hon, J. A. Tole, who said that in pursuance of His Honor’s instructions ho oommnnioated with the offioer in oharge of the Telegraph Department at Auckland in reference to Mr London’s statement in the Supreme Court that be had obtained information as to the foot of the despatoh of telegrams, and he asked the offioer in charge to bo good enough to reply at his earliest convenience, stating for the information of the Court and public whethor such a praotioo did exist, or whether such information was privileged to anyone, He had received that morning a ropiy from the offioer in charge, who wrote: ll I have to inform you that the rulos of the Dopart' ment ptroludo any information being given other than to the sender or receiver or duly authorised agent, as to tha contents or despatoh and reoeipt of a telegram. These regulations have Dot been departed from in any oase within my knowledge.” The matter had boon brought under, the notice of the head offioo in Wellington for them to dreido as to the oourso to be taken with regard to Mr London’s statement. His Honor Mr Justice Edwards observed, “ That is what I knew to be the practice,”
