SCARLET FEVER.

ANOTHER CASE DISCOVERED. 0-o**w**a It could not lmvc boon oxpectcd that the whole community could escape contamination of scarlet fever in view of the facts already related in reference to the boy who came here from Auckland infected with tho disease a couple of weeks ago, and it is therefore no surprise to find that another case has been diagnosed by Dr Williams, and wo shall probably hear of ruoro beforo very long. It is, of course, possiblo that there is no connection between tho two cases at present known; but the possibilities are that couldj the wanderings and contacts of the boy Carroll be definitely traced a connection botween tho two cases could be established. It may bo also that that connection took placo without tho knowledge of either of the afilictod parties, ! and it shows what extreme care should bo exercised in the complete isolation of .heso patients. Neither Dr Williams nor Dr Collins can do more than treat tho patients at their homes, for there is nowhere else to send them notwithstanding the Health Officer’s extraordinary mandate. Tho Health Officer is still in Napier, and so far as his Department is concerned half the town might be seething with the diseaso by this time for all that the Department has done to prevent it. The mandate has not been obeyed, nor is it likely to be obeyed, and we can discover no move of tho Department to do anything further in the direction of checking the spread of tho diseaso.
