John Brown, a jockey apprentice employed by James Twobill, a most promising rider, met with a serious nooident while riding in exercise work. The horse fell, and Brown sustained oonousaion of tho brain, and brokon collar bane, He was removed to the Thames Hospital, where he lies unooneoious.
Christchurch, last night,
At Lyttelton to-day Norman Walter Forde, soaman on the Athenio, was fined £5 for smuggling at r .mapfcone, At the same Bitting of the Cjurt Richard Gibson, mister of the schooner Joseph Sims, was fined 21s for leaving port on September 26-h without giving a eertifioato to the Odleotor of Customs that tho ship was sufficiently ballasted, and that tho ballast was properly seoured.
