Tlie French populace offered considerable resistance in Brittain and elsewhere to Government officials making inventories of church property. A heap of sulphur was fired inside a church at Pignan, necessitating tho breaking of tlie windows to expel the fumes, Men then climbed on the roof, and tried to feed the flames.
Women execrated and obstructed the firemen whose services were sought. In other places a tocsin summoned the populace, who gave the much trouble.
The parish priest at Couronne lay across the threshhold of the outer door until removed.
No fatalities are reported.
