WOOL MARKET STRONGER.

Wellington, last night, The Department of Industries and Commereo has reoeived the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, the 17th inst.: — Trade for all olassea oi mutton has been very slow, and prices aro barely maintained. The quantity at present going iota consumption is very small, the high prioes restiieiiog business. Canterbury brands are quoted at 4£i per lb; thoso other than Canterbury at 4fi. River Prate mutton is quoted a! 4d per lb. The lamb market is depressed, the weaiker being very unfavorable for the sale of that commodity. The average prioe for New Zsaland (Canterbury brand) is s&i per lb. This season’s Australian lame is quoted at 6|d per lb.

The betf market is very dull. Supplies of River Plato beef are increasing, and a further drop in prioe is imminent. New Zealand hinds and forequarters are quoted at 4Ji and 3Ji por lb respeoiively. Toe batter market is steady, but there is only a small demand for the quality. Choice New Zealand is quoted at libs per ewt, Danish at 125, Siberian loss, and Argentine 114 s. The chioso markoi is quiet, and BinaU businoss ia doing. Canadian is quoted at 63s per cwf. Tbs himp market is firm at the deoline, the markus being uctive for future deliveries, us I'gst shipments are expeoied, The quotations for g.f.a.q. Wellington, on spot, aro £36 10?, and for January to Maroh shipments £B6. The cocksfoot seed m.rkat is dull, there being scarcely any dsmaud, The average price for 17ib bright cioau-dressed seed is 44s per owt. The wool market is stronger,
