VOLUNTEER NOTES.

Bergeaut-Major J. Williams gave instruction to the cadets on Thursday, and lest night had a squad of the Gisborne Rifles under bis eyo. Owing to the heavy turn the muster was not so large as expected. To-day, if the weather dears, Sergeant-Major Williams will instruct the corps in field praoiej. A meeting waa to have been held after the above drill last night, but owing to the small muster the meeting was postponed fill next Thursday. A sbooiing matoh has been arranged for Thutaday, 22nd inst, and Satcrday, 24th; ranges, 300, 500,. and 700 yards; seven shots at each distance; optional sighters. These events are for the A class. The B class shots will hold a competition for the Oollinß medal on the same dates and under the same conditions. Both olasses will be handicapped, The annual camp will be held in the Victoria Domain from the Ist to Bth December. This has boon approved of. Sergeant-Major Williams will be in attendance. About 80 to 100 men will be under canvas, including Gisborne Rifles, Cadets, and a few from the East Coast Mounted Rifles.

A section competition will be held during camp week, good prizes being offered. The programme has been arranged, and is now posted in the Drill Shed. Thio programme includes, in addition to the routine drill, lectures on discipline and on ambulance work. The latter lecture will be given by Captain Schumacher. . A concert is also proposed towards the end of the camp. Every arrangement will be made for the comfort of the men while in camp, and it is expected that the instruction to bo given will greatly benefit the corps taking part Mr Arthur S. Coleman was selected to fill the vacancy occurring as lieutenant in the ranks of the Gisborne Rifles. It has been decided ts send a rifle team to Trent-ham from the Gisborne Rifles thjs
