WELLINGTON WOOL SALES.

' ADVANCE IN PRICES. PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night, The first wool sales of the season were held to-day, 1503 bales being offered by various brokers. There was a large attendance of buyers, and the wool as a whole was better grown than last year, though heavier in grease. There had been some reason to fear that to-day’s sale would open badly owing to low prices which had been offered privately for clips of crossbred wools ; but prices went upi to a high level, higher even than vendors' ideas of current values.

Half-breds, of which there were only a small offering, were strongly sought for. Light Romney skirted sold up to llid, and unskirted to lid. The following is the range of prieos ourrent: —Half bred, fair oondition, lid to lljd; ditto, inferior and pkirty, 9Jd to ney bright light condition, IOJd to ll£d ; ditto, medium and wasty oondition, 9£d to 9£d; crossbred ooarse, bright and clean, 9fd to 10£d; ditto, wasty and skirty, B£d to 10£d; pieoes and orutohings, good, 6£d to 7£d; ditto, waßty, 6Jd to 6d : looks, 2£d to 4-Jd. As oompared with prioes realised at the November sales last year there was an advanoe of three farthings on half-breds, and on fine medium and ooarse orcssbrods.
