Dunedin, Thursday.

A five-stalled stable in King slreos was destroyed by fire lust evening, and two horses valued at £55 caob wero burned to death. Tho atublc was owned by R. Brown, and is baiievod to ho insured. Tho two horses wero owned by F. Sirang, carter, and wero not insured. Three horses be* louging to Pnrdie and Go. were saved. The Bible, Tract, and Book Booioty’fl depot in Prinoes street was completely destroyed by fi;o la3t nigbt. Tho building, which was of wood and somewhat old, was owned by S. Salomon, and is believed to bo insured. At a rough estimate the Bible Society’s stock was of a value oi fully £SOOO. There is a fluctuating insuranci policy on the stock in the Australian Ailianoo and four or five other companies, but particulars are not available. The origin oi tbe fire is a mystery. The manager was in the building about 8 o’oluok aud ooe of tho empioyscs at 10 o'clock, when everything appeared sat., Tnere was no fireplace in the shop or upstairs.
