A STRIKE.

PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Melbourne. Nov. 1. A strike in the building trade lias practically commenced, Last night at knock ing off time the Vigilance Committee notified employers that the men would start work in the morning at eight o’clock instead of half-past seven. They were to present themselves so as to leave to the employers the duty of informing them that their services were not required. The evidence indicates that the strike will be almost general amongst the bricklayers and laborers in the city, Most of the union carpenters will also leave work. According to the Trades Hall estimate 1600 carpenters, 800 bricklayers, and 450 laborers will be affected, without counting such non-unionists as throw in their lot with the strikers.

MANY EMPLOYERS ACCEDE TO TERMS.
