FLORAL FETE.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR KING’S BIRTHDAY,
A meeting of ladies and gentlemen interested in the sohool floral fete, to be held on the 9th November to raise funds for the improvement of the sohool grounds, was held last night in the schoolroom, There was a fair attendance, Mr Somervell, chairman of the sohool oommittee, presiding. Mr G. Darton explained to those present [ that the primary objeot of holding the fete was to raise funds for improving the sohool grounds. The Education Board had prom’sed to subsidise the oommittee in an equal sum to that raised for such improvement. The oommittee also desired, if possible, to make the fete an annual affair to raise funds for the use of the oommittee. At present they found it very diffiouJt to meet the smallest expenses, and often found themselves short of money to effeot improvements, repaire, etc., that were necessary from time to time. The programme suggested for the fete was that a prooessioo start from the post office consisting of the band (if possible), sqnad of oadets, deoorated buggies, oarlp, oyolists, etc. The people and ohildren would go by train to the park ground, where a programme ol events would be gone through, Mr Rowley read apologies from a number of people, including the Mayor, all of whom bad promised toeupport the movement. Too following oommittees were then appointed, with power to add to their numbers : Procession Oommittee: His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Townloy), and Messrs Cave, Johnston, Findlay (oon venor), W. Morgan, Kennedy, and F Lowndes. Sports’ Oommittee: Messrs Wildish, Nisbet, Leslie (oonvener), OlseD, Cave, Morris, and Woodward. Ground Committee : Messrs Colley (convener), Nield, Wa’kor, Cowan, Barlow, and Misses MathewsoD, Cumming, Faram, Perry, and Plimmer. Refreshment Committee : Messrs East, Howard, Churob, Wade (convener), m! Craig, Brown, File, and Mesdames East,' Ohuroh, West, Anderson, and Stuokey. Traffic Oommittee: Messrs Townley and Rowley. To arrange for trains. Advertising Committee : The Secretaries I (Messrs Rowley and Darton). General Oommittee : The oomfained | oommittees.
Jumble Stall : Mrs Townley. Buttonhole and Flower Stall: Mrs Rowley. Telegraph Bureau : Misses Lewis and Adam?.
Guessing Competition : Mr Leo. Art Gallery ; Mr A. Beere. Hidden Treasure : Mr File. Fortune Telling : Misses King and O’Connor.
It was mentioned that the Christian Endeavor pionio had been fixed for the same day, and it was decided to approach the Endeavor Saoiely with a view of getting that event postponed so as not to clash with the fete.
A letter was read from the Gisborne Racing Club granting the use of the Park for holding thß fete free of oharge, on the condition that the grounds were left in good order and any damage done put right, A yote of thanks was passed to the olub. The meeting then adioutned. .
