The Secretary of the Treasury, while carrying sixty thousand sterling in a carriage through St. Petersburg, accompanied by an escort of eight mounted gendarmes, was attacked by twenty terrorists at the corner of the Ekaternisk canal. The terrorists threw two bombs, killing a horse and wounding two of the occupants of the carriage. They escaped under the cover of revolvers, taking with them £38,600. One terrorist was killed and six arrested.
