FIRE BREAKS OUT IN HOLD. rescue of passengers and CREW. PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT ReOelVed 12.24 a.m., OcCoDar 2S. Capetown, Ootober 28 The Bteamer Haversham Grange left Gape Yerdo on October 9th. When eight hundred miles from Capetown a fire was discovered in the hold. It spread rapidly. Tne steamer Mataka arriyed while the vessel was blazing, rescued the passengers and landed them at Capetown.

The Haversham Grange was aban' doned.

Received 12.25 a.m., Ootober 29. Sydney, Oct. 28. The Haversham Grange had a general cargo for Australian ports. It is thought here that the name of the rescuing vessel should be the Matekua.
