Humanitarian Society.
(To the Editor Gisborne Times.) Sir,—Al tha last meeting of tha County Council Mrs A. Scott, secretary of the Humanitarian Society, applied for the Council’s approval of a resolution passed by her society—" That a lady inspector to appointed to assist and inquire into needful oases requiring charitable aid.” Now, sir, surely this self-constituted society imust be ignorant of tbe fact that the/e are /already four legally constituted public Ibodies in existence for performing snob duty, namely, the Charitable A'd B iard itbe Borough Council, the County Council, ’ a nd the Hospital Tru-tees, and that ask ing any of these bodies to confirm suob a request is (qua! to a-kmg it to pas- a vote of nensure on the four of them for not doing their duty, for it is asking them to appoint some feminine map otor to super vise and carry out their duties in a more proper manner than they are doing at pres-nt. Surely those officious women -could occupy their lime netser as bomiithan paradiog tbe streets of Gisborne prying into other business and interfering with matters which are quite foreign to them- Th re is no distress io Gisborne at present, and if suob a thiDg existed there are plenty of legally sp,pointed bodies to remedy it wiihout tbe ■ supervision of any self appointed society .interfering in matters with whioh they are /□otoouvoraant.—l am. ots., • QIVIB,
