PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night. Walter Bichard Webb, under l(j years of age, was charged at the Police Court with forging a cheque for £3lB in the name of Edmund Mahoney. The evidence showod that though accused was not employed by Mahoney, he discoved Mahoney’s method of perforating cheques, and copied it so cleverly that ho deceived the bank clerk, though the signature was a forgery. Accused made a full confession of the crime. He was committed to trial.

Forward was charged to«day with having forged the impression of a seal placed upon a certain invoice, and was remanded pending the arrival of an Adelaide detective.

At its annual meeting the Taranaki Athletic and Caledonian Association strongly protested against the meagre sum set aside for prise money at the New Zealand championship sports at Christchurch in January next. Christchurch, last night.

At the Magistrate’s Court this morning judgment was given against a firm of building contractors for £GG 4s, being levies and fees due by defendant to the South Canterbury Industrial Union of Employers. Under the rules of this body each builder is required to pay to the Union one-half per cent, on the value of every contract he takes, and defendant neglected to do this for some time past. The case is the first of the kind heard here.

Invercargill, last night.||

A man who was working in a store handling imported bonadust is under treatment in the hospital for what is believed to be a mild form of anthrax. Dr Ogston examined the patient to* day. His condition is not serious.
