Mr Blair, who appeared for Courtenay, said bis oliont pleaded guilty to being on the licensed premises, but at the time of the offonoo the order was not
legally in existence in terms of the Act, not having beon written, and he (Mr Blair) contended the ohargo should be dismissed, His Worship said bo had ruled that if the person against whom the order was granted was in the Court at the time, the Bcnoh would consider this sufficient evidence that that person know the order was in existonoe. Mr Blair then ploadod extenuation on the grounds that Courtenay was not aware that the order oamo into operation for twenty-hours after the gr.ntiDg of same. Courtenay then went lDlo the box and gavo evidouoe to this effoot. It transpired that he himself had applied for prohibition. His Worship pointed out that many persons were under the impression that suoh orders did not oome into operation for a space of twentyfour hours. This was ontirely wrong.
