SALE AT MATAWHERQ .YARDS,*

There was a good attendance at tbe Matawbero stook sales yesterday. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. had a yarding of about 2COO sheep. Tbe demand for ewes waß slack, but there was good demand for hoggets. A line of 386 store wethers brought ISs, a line of light fat wethers 38j lid, and a line oi wethers and hoggets 36s 3d. About 200 head of cattle were yarded. Taere was a fair demand for yourg stook, but cows ware not in demand. The following prices were obtained : Seven heifers in calf £2 17s 6d, 7 empty oows £1 16s, 9 cows in calf £3 ss, 8 springing heifers £3 7., 5 light beef cows £4, 22 empty heifers £2 16j, 1 fat oow £3, 1 heifer £3 15s, 51 Polled Angns heifers £2 10s. Messrs Willisms and Kettle and the N.Z Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. had a yarding of close on 5500 sheep. Messrs Williams and Kettle report: Large prioes were received for hoggets—belter than any recorded this soasoD, but tbe demand for ewes and lambs waa not

as brisk as at previous Bales. A good line of ewes carrying 100 per cent, of iambs was passed in at £l, but was afterwards, disposed of at £1 O 3 61. s' There was a heavy yarding of cattle. Dairy oows and young stock were in poor demand, but brisk competition was evinoed for good lines of three-year old store bullooks, two lines being sold at £5 There waa a fair demand for butchers’ beef and a light supply, Oa the whole tbe sale was rather a dragging one.
