The terrorists have sentenced M. Stolypin and the Governor of Moscow to death. The Prefect of Odessa unexpectedly issued instructions restraining the violence of the Union of tho Russian People. The Courts fined General Lavaroff for issuing a pamphlet inciting the people to slaughter the Jews, and also reviving the fable that English millions were helping the Jews to revolutionise Russia.

Ninety-seven peasants were tried at Kherson for destroying an estate belonging M. Krivoßheen, a former Minieter. Witnesses declared that after the estate was devasted the Chief of the District arrived with Cossacks, collected peasants supposed to be concerned, including a portion of the ninety-seven, and without investigation, directed prioßts to administer the last Sacrament, and then ordered the peasants to bo beaten to death* The horrors lasted four hours. Twentythree were killed and one hundred and thirty terribly injured. The brutal work exhausted the Cossacks, who compelled peasants in the vicinity to continue, some flogging their owa fathers, sons, and brothers. Those killed were all innocent, as the guilty fled at the outset. After these revelations the Public Proseoutor decided not to avail himself of the official report. The Court nevertheless sentenced 63 to various terms, and the rest were acquitted.
