HOSPITAL SOCIAL.
The New Zealand Shipping Co’s w store presented a picturesque appearance
last evening when the Committees held their final preparatory meeting. The do corations are ou an elaborate scale, and ’■ ere carried out under the supervision of Mr Withers, head storeman of tho New Zealand Shipping Co. Messrs C. Neenan and A. Tuoliy sent in loads of evergreens, consisting of nikau palms, ferns and foliage, which under the manipulation of an energetic committee soon transformed the store into a sylven paradise, the ei’feet being most striking by tho array of pennons. All the sub committees have their departments well forward, and the Social gives promise of being one of the most successful ever held in Gisborne.
The arrangements for the supper-room are of an extensive nature, and the refresh
inent committee, under the capable super' vision of Mr Harding, should meet al requirements.
Special arrangements have been made in both the ladies’ and gents’ cloakrooms. Wrappers, etc., will be folded up and handed to the attendant in charge, who will ticket them, giving a duplicate to the owner. For this gentlemen will be charged sixpence and ladies nothing. The secretaries, Messrs Wauchop and Little, have worked assiduously in promoting the arrangements for the gathering and if the Social is not an unbounded success it will be through no lack of enterprise on their part.
